Wii unable to read mario kart wii disc?

I just got a brand new wii console, new mario kart wii game and it said its unable to read the disc? Is it because i need to update my wii to play the game? Because i can't now until my dad gets home to allow my wii's back address on the wireless router :'-(

i work in a game shop and have a wii sometimes the discs will not play the first time or even a good few tries after that, my own cooking mama took about thirty attempts before the machine would recognise it, i would have given up straight away if i didn't know how often it happens from people bringing back what they think are broken games only to have them work on the shops console, just keep trying if it still doesn't work bring it back to the shop
